Following the death of several NYSC corps members during the recent post-election violence in Northern Nigeria, and recalling the affected corps members during Jos crises, there's been a movement which may lead to either abolishment of the whole NYSC thing or what we call a Review of posting Policies. Check this out and tell us what you suggest!
Group seeks review of NYSC policy
A group, Coalition for a United Nigeria, has added its voice to the call on the Federal Government to review the posting policy of the National Youth Service Corps scheme, to restrict postings of members to only their geopolitical zones.

The reason for this call, according to the group, is to protect corps members from unnecessary attacks as was witnessed in the northern parts of the country recently. Mr. Uche Anyanwu, National Coordinator of the group, yesterday in Port Harcourt expressed strong disapproval of the gruesome murder of nine corps members during the post-election crisis in the North. He, therefore, stressed that the only way to ensure that such dastardly act is not repeated is for corps members to be restricted to serve the nation within the confines of their region. He explained that, that would guarantee the safety of their lives while they serve the nation. He appealed to Nigerians to avoid any action that would cause divisions amongst them because the country is a creation of God.

the nysc program is undoubtably useful to our national development and youth orientation, bridging a crucial gap btw studentship and workership. It should not be scrapped.
I however suggest that some things be changed. Do not post corpers to their own death. If the northerners dont want peace, why would you post a xtian corper there? On many occasions, NYSC should be sued. I'll be back to continue....

yea, am back, and please review the posting policies, and consider the plights of innocent poor parents who suffered to send their children to school.
Yes, jonathan is compensating those families wit 5m each, yes, its a good gesture, a good deed. But if given chance to choose, wont u think d families will prefer their children alive to 5m? Its a food for thought. Later.

I accept corpers should be posted to places within their geopolitical zone, not to some north where human eaters and enemies of peace abound.
Sadly enof, this posting on new corpers still witness corpers being posted to northern states like zamfara etc. Dis shows how well we can make noise in nigeria and notin comes out of it. Nonsens

Posting to a different geo-political zone was never a bad idea but nowadays its disadvantages is far outweighing the advantages which is quite obvious. Based on these, i would subscribe to posting to one's geo-political zone or scraping the scheme altogether.

Going by recent unpleasant event(jos crisis & post-election violence), and based on fact that the advantages of the scheme is being overshadowed by its disadvantages leaves us with no other option than to scrap the program but immediate solution should be to review posting polices by posting corp members to their respective geopolitical zone. Thks.
