The spate of kidnappings in our country is alarming. Just like suicide bombings felt strange, so was kidnappings. But from recent events like the arrest of Evans and revelations that came from it, we cannot but conclude that kidnapping has become an advanced well organised business venture in Nigeria.
It is no longer as crude as usual. It is a well orchestrated and established line of business. Just that it is not legalized. Yet. It can be so gross that many victims are killed in the process of detention and negotiations for ransom. Some get seriously injured, while some surviving victims suffer psychological trauma for the rest of their lives.
Desperate times demand desperate measures. To curtail this cankerworm of a trend, one good strategy is to empower our judicial system to punish properly anyone caught in the act, thus consequently discouraging others from even ever thinking about doing same.
Now, in your opinion, recommend the best punishment for convicted kidnappers.

I prefer life imprisonment for it, because i want the kidnappers to live and suffer for what they had done.

Then what are you actually insinuating?Kroos wrote:Won't it be better to do something that can deter them permanently from this? Life term won't work. Why? People still push drugs heavily in countries where drug pushing leads to death penalty. So what are we saying?

I guess capital punishment. Firing squad or lethal injection.Horsfall George wrote:Then what are you actually insinuating?Kroos wrote:Won't it be better to do something that can deter them permanently from this? They will escape because our Nigerian police are corrupt and adequate infrastructures aren't put in place to secure the prisons of 'Jail Break'.
