Being A female: My Experience and Message

By Blessing Chinenye David

Because am a female
I was trained as a female
Denied my right
And regarded as the weakest amongst all
Because I'm a female.

I was denied standard education
Because of the spurious belief
that women's education ends in kitchen
I was denied many things
Yes, many things
Because I'm a female
I was less valued by many.

Despite the deed
I found the need
to prove the power of women
Taking it upon myself
To fight for my destiny
I knew greater than that of ten men

I moved into the street
hawking ordinary sachet water
Graduating therefrom
I moved into other businesses
That ceased my years
Until I achieved my goal.

The once rejected stone
Is now the indispensable
Defying all odds
And sending the message of hope
Which also is fecund
Just as women.

Females were once maltreated
but now...
None can do without their help
He who trains a female
Trains a nation
Thank God I'm a female.

I salute females
I respect females
I honour females
Not because I'm a female
Even though I am.

Salute females
Respect females
Honour females
For humanity demands such
So also divinity.

Females are great
Females are special
Females are soft
Females are strong
It pays to value females
It pays to be a female.
