Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State has threatened to revoke the N800 million contract for the construction of the permanent orientation camp of the NYSC in Wamakko town.
A statement issued by the Special Assistant to Wamakko on Press Affairs, Abubakar Dangusau, quoted him as saying that he would revoke the contract if the contractor fails to complete the project in the next one month.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the state government had in late 2010 awarded the multi million naira contract to Palmezex Engineering Ltd.
It said that Wamakko, who paid an unscheduled visit to the project site on Friday, expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work by the contractor handling the project.
‘’The contractor must fully mobilise back to the site and complete this job according to my ultimatum or else I will be left with no option than to revoke the contract.
‘’I had since wanted the NYSC camp to take-off so that they can leave the temporary one at the Government Technical College, Farfaru –Sokoto, which is not too befitting.''
The statement, made available to NAN in Sokoto on Saturday, also quoted the governor as promising to do everything possible to ensure the success of the NYSC scheme.
