No plot to implicate Saraki, Ekweremadu over NASS invasion - Presidency

- Presidential spokesperson, Laolu Akande, states that the law enforcement agencies who recently invaded the National Assembly will be identified and disciplined appropriately

- He says it is surprising that Senate presiden Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, are claiming that they are being investigated over the invasion

- APC senators and the PDP lawmakers at the National Assembly draw battle line over calls for Saraki's resignation

The presidency has denied allegations by Senate president Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremaduthat the federal government is planning to implicate them for the recent invasion of the National Assembly by men of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The senior special assistant to the acting president on media and publicity, Laolu Akande, told the Punch on Friday, August 10, that is was surprising that Saraki and Ekweremadu could make such allegations against the government.

Akande said there was an order from the presidency mandating that the law enforcement agencies involved in the invasion be identified and disciplined appropriately.

He said the order from the presidency did not suggest that the investigation was about the two National Assembly leaders.
“I don’t understand why the statement will make allusions because what the Presidency said was that everyone that was involved in the violation of our constitutional order through the invasion of the National Assembly within the law enforcement agencies will be identified and disciplined appropriately,"Akande said.

“I don’t understand why the statement will therefore suggest that the investigation is about the two National Assembly leaders.

“The duty of the Federal Government on this matter is to ensure that everyone within the law enforcement agencies that was involved in the invasion of the National Assembly which we considered as a violation of our constitutional order will be identified and sanctioned.

“It is therefore surprising that the two National Assembly leaders will consider themselves among that bracket of people that have to be identified and appropriately sanctioned.

“I am surprised on why they should think the investigation is about them.”

Wait! Why not share it.
