The image below shows the distributions of he over 43,000 cases of the novel Coronavirus #Covid19 across all the 36 states plus FCT in Nigeria. This is immense. And this is first wave. Health officials have publicly declared that they cannot see any end in sight soon to this first wave. Its still rising.
Following the new 462 Covid-19 cases reported yesterday, Nigeria now has a total of
43,151 confirmed cases while
19,565 have been discharged but
879 related deaths were recorded. Globally, there are now
17,778,268 cases with
683,389 accompanying deaths, unfortunately.
Let's take a look at how the virus has spread across Nigeria, Africa's largest nation with population of about 200 million.
1.
Lagos: Topping the chart is Lagos State with over 15,000 cases as at today.
2.
Abuja FCT: The FCT comes as runner-up with over 3,800 cases so far
3.
Oyo State is number 3 with over 2,700 cases already. Could it be due to proximity to Lagos?
4.
Edo State is number 4 with over 2,000 cases
5.
Rivers, Kano and Delta States occupy positions 5, 6 and 7 with 1,791, 1,597 and 1,510 respectively.
6. See image below for full list.
There are some states that can be regarded as fast-rising. Ondo State is one such state with large number of cases daily and it has rapidly risen to position 11.
With the lockdown almost totally removed, cases are expected to rise in the coming months.
Which position is your state on the list? And what is your outlook?
Remember to stay safe, maintain social distance and good hygiene.
