Well, don't get carried away. Hausa may be the most beautiful part of the city. Especially Lagos. That picture is the most beautiful part of the city.
But Tokyo is cool, and Turkey too.

Well, I was having no idea about the most populated cities in the world before reading this thread. Jocoal, I am going to appreciate you for this sharing. I am glad to read about these cities. All of these are looking really cool and I am thinking to collect information about the TOKYO briefly as it seems a beautiful city through the image.

Ohh really all these are one of the most populated cities in the world. Love to go for all these regions to have some time, especially for ISTANBUL. Must say really helpful post to know more about some densely populated but touristy places.

Have you ever wondered what is the most populated city in the world? It may be your own town, or it might be one of your favorite cities. It doesn’t matter what the land area of the city measures, what is important here is the estimate of the people living in that particular field.

However, we are referring to the Top 7
Cities by Population in the World. Therefore, a city is based on legal or political boundaries of a locality and its urban status is usually composed of some form of local government. Now, the World Urbanization Prospects defines it as “the population living within the administrative boundaries of a city or controlled directly from the city by a single authority.” This may not include the suburban areas.

The rating was based on the city with the highest population growth. Now, take a look at this list so you may have an idea about the world’s most populous city.

7. TIANJIN, CHINA (12,938,224)

Located along the west coast of the Bohai Gulf, the city comprises of 4,037 square kilometers of the land area. With its neighboring provinces Shandong and Liaoning, the city is bordered by Beijing 120 kilometers to the northwest, the Hebei surround the east.

Tianjin is one of the five central cities of China. In terms of urban population, the city ranks fourth largest in the country while fifth in the Mainland China in terms of administrative area population. While the city is a part of the Bohai Economic Rim, it is considered the largest coastal city in northern China.

6. TOKYO, JAPAN (POPULATION: 13,297,269)

The largest and capital city of Japan, Tokyo is the home of Japan’s Emperor and the Japanese government. The city is formerly called ‘Edo’ but it was renamed to Tokyo in 1868. While Tokyo has been ranked as one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, it is actually the metropolitan county.

The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world which the government administers the 23 Special Wards of Tokyo. Furthermore, Tokyo ranked third in the International Financial Centers Development Index Edit, third in the Global Economic Power Index and fourth in the Global Cities Index and considered the alpha+ world city.

5. ISTANBUL, TURKEY (POPULATION: 14,377,019)

In world history, Istanbul is also known as Constantinople and Byzantium. The city is the most populous city in Turkey and the major economic, cultural, and historical center of the country. Aside from being one of the most populated cities in the world, Istanbul ranked the fifth largest city proper and the largest European city.

This year, Istanbul gained an estimate of 12.56 million foreign tourists after it was recognized as the European Capital of Culture five years ago. Additionally, UNESCO World Heritage Site listed this city with its culture and entertainment.

4. DELHI, INDIA (POPULATION: 16,787,941)

The capital territory of India, Delhi is the second most populated city and the second most populous urban agglomeration in India. Delhi also ranked as the world’s third largest metropolitan area. As the years pass by, the city’s population growth consistently increases.

In most of its history, Delhi was considered as a capital of various kingdoms and empires. Furthermore, Delhi has become the capital if the National Capital Territory of Delhi comprising nine districts, 27 tehsils, 59 census towns, 300 villages, and three statutory towns.

3. LAGOS, NIGERIA (POPULATION: 21,324,000)

The largest city in Nigeria, Lagos is the second fast growing urban area in the African continent and one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. While the mega city has the highest GDP, Lagos is the financial center of Africa.

Lagos is also the home of one of the largest and busiest sports on the African continent. The city has expanded due to the massive rapid urbanization.

2. KARACHI, PAKISTAN (POPULATION: 23,500,000)

The capital of the Sindh province, Karachi is the largest and most populous metropolitan city of Pakistan. It also ranked as the sixth most major metropolitan area and the second biggest city in the world by population.

Known as the city of lights due to its active nightlife, Karachi is the main seaport and financial center of the country. It ranked as the seventh largest urban agglomeration in the world and the largest city in the Muslim world.

1. SHANGHAI, CHINA (POPULATION: 24,150,000)

And to top the list, China has been aforementioned for two times already and this will be the third time. Shanghai is the largest Chinese city by population and the world’s largest city by population. It is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities of the country and the world’s busiest container port.

Shanghai is the international financial and transport center. With its land area estimate of 6,340.5 square kilometers, the city is located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China.
