Madea (Tyler Perry) the iconic character retires!
Tyler Perry has decided to quit playing Madea, saying he his exhausted and can’t continue with the fictional character.
It looks like Tyler Perry is done playing the iconic character Madea!The 49-year-old actor and director in an interview on Bevy Smith‘s SiriusXM show on Monday said that he’s ready to “kill” off the hilarious grandmother character in 2019.
Jokingly, he said: It’s time for me to kill that old bi–h, I’m tired, man! I’m tired,Tyler who has portrayed the character everyone loves in over 20 movies, plays ad TV shows, first introduced her in the 1999 play I Can Do Bad All by Myself.
After amassing $500M worldwide starring as Mabel Earlene “Madea” Simmons in 10 films and 10 plays, Tyler Perry has made a decision to bid farewell to the fictional 87-year-old grandmother-of-five for good. I’m exhausted, man! I’m exhausted, ‘ the 49-year-old movie/TV mogul said on Bevy Smith’s SiriusXM show on Monday.
On Monday’s episode of “Bevelations,” the filmmaker and actor told “Page Six TV” co-host Bevy Smith that the last movie in the long-running franchise, “Madea Family Funeral”, will hit theaters next year. Perry also wanted to focus on other projects like “Acrimony”, released earlier this year, and “Nobody’s Fool”, which will be out November 2. The play was directed and written by Perry, who also starred in the play and portrayed the fictional character.According to reports, Madea has appeared in dozens of films grossing more than $500 million internationally.
It’s been 20 years since the entertainment mogul introduced the slick-mouthed, gun-toting, badly-built granny to the world in his plays, films, and television appearances. He has said she was based on his own mother, as well as Eddie Murphy’s performance in “Nutty Professor II: The Klumps”.
