The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of 179 persons at various checkpoints and motor parks for violating the interstate lockdown.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Monday that 43 commercial vehicles were also impounded, adding that the violators were arraigned and sentenced accordingly.
He said, “The Lagos State Police Command arrested 179 persons for violating interstate non-essential travel restrictions. The violators were arrested on June 28 and 29, 2020, at various interstate checkpoints and motor parks in Lagos State. Among those arrested were 43 commercial bus drivers conveying passengers to Abuja, Kogi, and Abia states, among others. Forty-three vehicles were also impounded.
“The suspects were arraigned before the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court and sentenced accordingly. The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, warned commercial vehicle operators and motor parks against violating the interstate movement restriction order. Passengers are also warned against non-essential interstate travels.”
