head of the Champions League quarter-final first leg, Paris Saint-Germain have been rocked by the news that Marco Verratti has tested positive for COVID-19 and will have to self-isolate.

The midfielder will need to quarantine for a period of 10 days and will therefore miss Wednesday's match in Germany, having already been ruled out of Sunday's Ligue 1 top-of-the-table clash against Lille.

The Parisian club confirmed the news via Twitter on Friday and it is a double blow for the 28-year-old who suffered a thigh injury during Italy's game against Bulgaria.

"Following the last Sars-Cov2 PCR test, Marco Verratti is confirmed as positive," tweeted PSG.

"He will respect the isolation period and is subject to the relevant health protocols."

Before confirming the news, PSG had already announced that Verratti would miss the Ligue 1 encounter with Lille.

Both teams are level on points at the top of the table and Lyon and Monaco, just three and four points behind respectively, will be hoping to capitalise on any slip-ups.

It remains to be seen whether Verratti will recover in time to be available for the second leg against Bayern Munich on April 13.
