Almost every salary earner is terrified about losing their job. I was. But when this incident happens, only then would you realize whats behind 6 are more than 7. These are 3 mindset-changing truths that only losing your job can teach you. And these truths will set you free from that slavery called salary:
3 Harsh Truths Changed My Mindset When I Lost My Job
If you lost a job, here are the benefits you get....

Lost-job-pic.jpg
One month ago, I lost one of my jobs. While I work on multiple projects, not each of them is for profit. It was my major income stream, and I lost it.
When first days after losing my major income stream began, I was worried that my other side projects wouldn’t be as profitable as they need to be. Thinking about paying my rent and utility bills were the only thoughts in my mind.

“People shouldn’t be afraid of losing their jobs for things that blindside them or are out of their control.”
— Greg Ott in Forbes

Once I dedicated more time to my side projects on the backlog, I saw immediate results. There was no reason to panic anymore.

The big changes were coming. Today I realized that losing a job was the best thing that happened during my entire career.

You Realize Your Potential Only When You Lose a Job
When I worked in corporate work, I had a salary. It means that I was stable in my income. This is what gave me power and confidence in tomorrow’s day.
When I lost my job, I lost the major stream paying for my apartments, bills, and ability to buy everything.

In the beginning, I was devastated. I thought, how can I pay for everything now.
My initial thought was I need to find a job.
That is how the first couple of days went. At that moment, writing was my hobby, and I didn’t expect that I can transform it into a profitable side hustle. Along with writing, I also had a design publication where I share my design experience and help other designers.
While writing is my small income stream that didn’t seem to perform well, I decided to give it a try and see where it’ll lead me. I remember Sinem Günel's words that you need to work hard if you want to see results.

I started to write more about design because I had a lot of time. And suddenly, many recruiters from around the world started to reach out to me. If I need to find a job before, now it finds me, isn’t it amazing?
Because of my writing, a design magazine reached out to me. They republished a few of my design articles. I was a guest on a few YouTube channels and joined design communities. What seems to be a hobby only now gives me results.

All this didn’t happen if I still had a job and continue to work. Once I lost my job, I spent enough time on my personal brand by writing articles in my design niche.
If you’re afraid to lose a job, your panic doesn’t worth it. You can easily transform your hobby into a side hustle where you have the skills and inspiration. You only need to be patient and dedicated.

“And when I say “create a job,” I mean both ideas for becoming an entrepreneur or intrapreneur and also making yourself stand out for a job where you can truly differentiate yourself from the crowd.”
— Jon Michail in Forbes

My experiment showed that only when you lose your job and start to spend time on yourself, education, and experimenting, you get results you can’t get with a corporate job.
So if you lost your job, it’s time to think seriously to start your own business, side hustle, or experiment with your self-education.
You never know what results from your hobby you might get until you try. I didn’t expect any results, but just in one month, I got so many of them that I continue my side hustle and want to transform it into my major income stream.

You’re More Successful Without a Job
Let’s be honest and answer a question together with me. Are you interested in spending hours and nights at your job? Do you want your company’s success over your personal one?
I think you’d agree with me if I say that everyone wants to build their own success—everyone dreams about being a star, entrepreneur, or influencer.

It can sound selfish, but it’s reality. Each of us wants to be successful.
So what factors are holding you from being successful? When I lost my job, I quickly realized the reason for not being successful for years. I needed time to build my name. I needed time to create my personal brand. Time was a key to my success.
This is a sad reality for every working professional. You work so much that you don’t have enough time to develop your own business or project. Some people work on their personal stuff in the evenings or nights.

It might sound like a solution, but it’s a harsh way to create your thing. What is more important is it’s bad for your health. If you don’t sleep enough and work too much, you can’t keep up with the night working schedule for long.

When I lost my job, it was a perfect situation. I wasn’t ready to spare my health and work at night for my own project. Finally, I had all time for myself only.
Instead of waking up and working on a client’s project, I could wake up and work for myself.
This is so exciting! My experiment showed that I’m more successful without a job than with it.
Before writing, I had no name. I wasn’t interested in anyone. What happened when I developed my profile? Tons and tons of job proposals, opportunities, and connections.

“There’s no better way to build credibility than by creating a strong personal brand.”
— Caroline Castrillon in Forbes

This is why I strongly believe that I’m more successful without a job than with it. If before I had no name or personal brand, I have both now.
When people reach out to me, they say that they found my design article and liked it. Because of just my writing, they want to collaborate with me. They didn’t saw my portfolio yet, and this is super unusual for my industry.

Yes, building your brand might take time, but this is an amazing journey with so many surprises! I’ll continue my journey and see what new surprises my writing will bring me.

The Fear To Not Be Able To Pay for Your Life
When I lost my job, I didn’t want it to happen. Luckily, thanks to it, I got so many interesting events and opportunities.

Once I became jobless, a fear of not paying bills was is a stopping point. The hope that my side hustle can be transformed and become my major income stream was so weak that I needed a couple of days to push myself actually to take action.

Believe it or not, this fear will go as it came to you. Once you know what you want to build a side hustle and start to bootstrap it, a wish to become successful quickly replaces a fear.

Fear is your enemy that stops you from being successful.
If you have doubts and don’t take any action, you won’t succeed. You can blame yourself only for not taking a chance.

This is why you need to change your mindset as soon as possible. You’re at the beginning of your freelance journey that needs to be proactive.
If you have a fear, it’ll stop you from being successful. When I fear failing, and it stops me from my goal, I always remind myself that the most successful people always fail.
Fails make you stronger and teach you new lessons. After a fail, you’ll become even stronger.

“If you lost your job, grant yourself the right to process the situation. Use this time to decompress. It’s perfectly normal to mourn the loss of your position.”
— Jack Kelly in Forbes

The freelance journey takes time, but in the end, you might earn even more than with your full-time job. While it’s not a 100% shot, it’s still worth your time and effort to try freelancing and see if it works for you.

You never know about anything until you don’t try it yourself.
My freelance journey is full of challenges, and it makes me better. How can you grow if you don’t struggle? Where will you take your experience from?

Like many successful YouTubers, you can start freelancing as fun and earn money. After some time, your income will increase if you’ll be dedicated to what you do.
If you have powerful doubts about not being able to pay for your apartment or bills during your freelance experiment, I’d suggest you save money for at least 3 months of your journey.
The perfect budget will be 6 months, but not everyone can afford it. Also, it’s worth thinking about where you can spend less.

You can quickly gain money for your bills with your side hustle. Earning money for rent will take a bit longer time, but in the end, you can earn your annual income from a corporate job with your side hustle. Or even more — who knows.
