As billionaires scramble to put Dogecoin on the Moon, Elon Musk declares that a “new space race” has begun.

ELON MUSK is entangled in a “new space race” after his plan to deposit Dogecoin on the Moon was thwarted by a similarly ambitious effort to plant bitcoin on the lunar surface.

Elon Musk, the self-proclaimed Tesla Technoking and Dogefather, has drummed up a frenzy among cryptocurrency traders this year. His constant tweets on Dogecoin (DOGE) and bitcoin (BTC) have not only fueled the stratospheric ascent of so-called memecoins like DOGE, but have also drawn the ire of hacker collective Anonymous. Mr Musk previously stated that SpaceX would “put a literal Dogecoin on the literal Moon” in April of this year, and he has since been joined by crypto exchange BitMEX.

Last week, BitMEX announced a contest to land its flagship token on the Moon, hoping to beat SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to the finish line.

The startup plans to launch a one-of-a-kind physical bitcoin token as part of a NASA mission to the moon’s surface by the end of the year.

The launch date is currently listed as “mid to late 2021” by NASA’s Goddard Spaceflight Center, and “November of 2021” by a webpage dedicated to the mission.

Astrobotic Technology, a Pennsylvania-based commercial company, will build a spaceship for the odd cargo.

The business has been chosen by NASA to bring scientific instruments and technology to the Moon’s surface on board its Peregrine lander.

“BitMEX will create a one-of-a-kind physical bitcoin, comparable to the Casascius coins delivered to the Moon by Astrobotic in 2013,” BitMEX announced.

“Under a tamper-evident holographic covering, the coin will carry one bitcoin at a publically disclosed address.”

Mr Musk’s aspirations to put DOGE on the Moon were also addressed by the business, which stated: “One Dogecoin protagonist/EV car innovator/space enthusiast recently set down the challenge by claiming he plans to send DOGE to the Moon.”

“We have nothing against Dog Money, but we believe it is only appropriate to assist Bitcoin in getting there first.”

Mr Musk, who isn’t afraid of a challenge, reacted positively to the news on Twitter.

“A new space race has begun!” the South African billionaire stated in response to a tweet from Bitcoin News.

The NASA-Astrobotic Technology mission is anticipated to reach the lunar surface in the fourth quarter of 2021, meaning Mr Musk is likely to lose this “space.”
