Some people don’t get to land jobs after interviews no matter how intelligent they are. Was it because they weren’t well dressed or they weren’t fluent enough in the English language? No! More is involved in passing an interview.
It’s not just about how intelligent or well-dressed you are, interviewing skills are learned.

And there no second chances of making a first impression. Let us discuss some tips that could help you pass your interview. But first having a critical look of what this term means would help us.
An interview is a business transaction with a hiring manager in the position of deciding who qualifies to get the job. An interviewing candidate has a hurdle to beat to win him the job – proving to the manager that he/she is the best candidate for the job by performing excellently to prove his/her worth.

At this juncture, let us consider tips that would help you improve your interviewing skills so that you won’t, even if you had, fail on your next interview.

1. Research the Company
Having enough knowledge about the company is a great step towards success. Don’t vacillate to make comprehensive research about the company, this may include what it does, the kind of employees it needs, how they operate, and many more.
This can’t be underestimated and neither can you underestimate the fact that you understand exactly what the company faces and how issues can be solved daily on a macro or micro-level. Knowing details about the company improves your “culture-fit factor”.

2. Prepare A Good Nonverbal Communication With The Hiring Manager
Companies don’t employ those who aren’t confident in themselves. Passing an interview boils down to your level of confidence. This may involve giving a nice smile, making a firm eye contact with your hiring manager at the interview, especially when countering questions.
A friend of mine was seeking a good, well-paying job. He was invited for an interview. He, together with several others (including one of the managers’ brothers) was primed for the interview. Well, all said and done, the job was given to this friend of mine on the basis of his absolute confidence. So, being unconfident could be a quick end to your interview.

3. Prepare your SARBs
During the interview, you may be asked what you will do to a problem that needs immediate attention that will benefit the company. These are simple questions the interviewer will ask you, as a candidate, to see if you are really fit for the job. Companies are in search of employees who will take fast but judicious action for the growth of the entire company. Presenting your SARBs excellently sends a message to the interviewer that you are the right person for the job.

4. Avoid Over-Confidence
While you may likely to be taken as one of the employees, you must be careful with your level of confidence. Attitude plays a chief role in the success of your interview. Even though you may be clothing yourself with a performance that reveals your professionalism and ability, don’t be over-confident; it is as bad as being too reserved.

5. Don’t be fast to speak, Listen
From the beginning of the interview, your hiring manager is giving you vital information. If you are absent-minded and are not paying rapt attention to him/her, you’re likely to lose the job as you’re missing out vital information. One of the tips that could make you successful is having a listening heart. While the interviewer is asking questions (whether vital or not), be sure to hear every bit of it.

6. Ensure the Position you’re interviewing for is what you can handle
Some employees are kicked out of the company because they fail to work as they’ve promised - they don’t fully understand what the position they had interviewed for really demands. Consequently, consider your skills and attributes to see if they align with the vacancy you’re applying for.
