The seven host communities of Oil Mining Lease (OML) 150 in Delta state have issued quit notice to Conoil Producing Limited, operator of the asset, over its continuous refusal to deal with the new communities consultative Committee.

The communities had begun a peaceful protest at the Obodo Field in Warri South council area following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum to the firm to stop all dealings with the previous executive led by Charles Omadeli.

The protesting communities of Ifiekporo, Uwakeno, Omadino, Ewekwara, Jaluwa Efueye, Aja Osolo and Obodo, while assuring they had no issues against the Federal Government, warned they will not leave the protest ground until their demand is met.

They bore placards with inscriptions such as “Total shutdown of OML150 field for refusing to have a deal with the present exco led by Monday Agbeyi,” ; “We are shutting down your field until you do the needful by recognising the present executive led by Monday Agbeyi”.

In a statement to newsmen, the communities directed the company to recognise and commence dealings with Comrade Monday Agbeyi-led executive of the OML 150 Communities Consultative Forum (CCC) as approved by the seven landlord communities, the palace of the Olu of Warri and the Delta State Government.

Describing the company as being “disrespectful,” the statement signed by Comrade Agbeyi, new chairman of the OML 150 CCC, said that its (Conoil) refusal to work with the new Committee executives is hindering development across the communities.“Today marked the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum given Conoil Producing Limited to respect the proclamation made by the seven landlord communities, the palace of the Olu of Warri and the Delta State Government to recognise and commence dealings with the Comrade Monday Agbeyi led executive of the OML 150 Communities Consultative Forum or should vacate our land.

“All we are saying is that Conoil Producing Limited should respect constituted authorities and start dealing with us to pave way for the development of our communities or the company should quit our land now.

“We want to assure Conoil Producing Limited and the law enforcement agencies that there shall be no destruction of properties during the period of this peaceful protest as all the peaceful protesters are thoroughly monitored.

“We wish to however warn that the peaceful protesters should not be provoked to anger by the Conoil Producing Limited vis à vis the law enforcement agents to avoid a breakdown of law and order. Conoil should give peace a chance.

“We detest and would no longer accept and or tolerate the move by Conoil Producing Limited to sabotage the development stride and initiative of the Monday Agbeyi led executive by sponsoring and working with some disgruntled individuals posing as the executive members representing OML 150 host communities by Comrade Monday Agbeyi chairman OML 150 m consultative committee,” the statement reads.https://thenationonlineng.net/oml-150-h ... r-land-or/
