Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun says playing in front of his parents against Argentina at the Krestovsky Stadium in St Petersburg, Russia, at the 2018 World Cup, is his proudest moment as a player.
Nigeria lost 2-1 to the La Albiceleste, with a late goal from Marcos Rojo sealing the Argentines’ place in the last 16. Victor Moses’ penalty kick had cancelled out Lionel Messi’s opener.
Balogun, who made his debut for the Eagles in a friendly in 2014 against Mexico, has featured 31 times for the three-time African champions.
The 31-year-old defender played in all three games as Nigeria were eliminated in the group stage for the third time in their six World Cup campaigns.
“On this day (June 26) in 2018 – representing Naija in front of my parents in a sold out stadium during the World Cup 2018 against Argentina, @Ndidi25 aka Double Engine and my humble self taking on a certain Lionel Messi – rumour has it he’s a baller. #ProudestMoment.”
The Nigeria international is currently on loan at English Championship side, Wigan, from Brighton.
