Lawyers of Nigerian actress and comedian, Damilola Adekoya, also known as Princess, have said that she had nothing to do with the release of the controversial closed-circuit television video. The video caught Yoruba actor Olarenwaju Omiyinka, better known as Baba Ijesha, molesting the actress’s minor foster daughter.
The child reportedly had been molested by the man at least twice since she was seven years old. The video being released has mixed reactions and the actress does not want to take legal responsibility for its release.
The 14-year-old girl reportedly confided in her foster mother that her famous friend had assaulted her sexually seven years ago. According to Premium Times , the actress plotted to catch the pedophile red-handed. She set up a surveillance camera and left the child in the same room with Omiyinka. Within minutes, the man checked to see if he was truly alone with the young girl before proceeding to kiss her and touch her inappropriately.
Adekoya reported the actor to the Lagos State police command. Omiyinka was arrested on April 22 for the sexual assault of the minor.
Following the sexual abuse allegation, many of the actor’s cohorts and fans cried foul. They claimed that the actress used the child to trap the accused. They also questioned the authenticity of the sexual assault claim.
While Adekoya dismissed those questioning the victim of sexual abuse, she took the stance to not release the video of the accused.
On Sunday, May 2, The Punch released the minutes-long video of the minor’s assault on Twitter and YouTube. Following the leak of the footage, the video was taken down from their social media platforms, but it had already been shared by thousands.
While the footage does prove the sexual assault, it is sensitive evidence which Adekoya had refused to release. Her lawyers, of the Ibilola Subair Law Firm, dismissed any rumors that she was behind the video being leaked, the Guardian reported.
Omiyinka reportedly confessed to having sexually assaulted the teen
during interrogation by the police. A video of him apologizing for his actions had also been circulated on social media. He awaits charges as judiciary workers continue their strike in Lagos.
