Twitter CEO, Mr Elon Musk, has gone ahead with plans and officially changed the microblogging platform’s famous bird logo to an “X” on Monday. It was reported on Sunday that the billionaire said the platform would soon “bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
As of Monday, the domain X.com directs users to Twitter’s homepage, though Twitter.com also remains live. However, we can confirm that this change has not spread to its mobile app.

This development is part of sweeping reforms that have occurred since the Space X CEO acquired the platform for $44 billion late last year. The transition from Twitter to X reflects Mr Musk’s vision to turn the platform into what he has called an “everything app.”

Twitter CEO, Ms Linda Yaccarino, wrote in a post on Sunday that X will be “centred in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking,” adding that the platform will also be powered by artificial intelligence.”

Mr Musk, who serves as executive chairman and CTO of the company, said that tweets will now be called “x’s,” though when asked about what retweets would be called, he wrote that the “concept should be rethought.”

He founded X.com back in 1997, which eventually became PayPal. His space startup SpaceX has ‘X’ as the logo. And most recently, he founded an AI company called X.ai. In April, the Musk-owned social network changed its legal name from Twitter Inc. to X Corp.

This is not the first time Mr Musk is changing the Twitter logo.

Earlier this year, he briefly changed the social network’s logo to the Dogecoin meme— the Shiba Inu dog breed, but later reverted the change.

This marks the death of Twitter’s popular mascot, Larry the Bird, which was adopted in 2010 after the legendary Boston Celtics basketball player Larry Bird. Prior to that, the Twitter logo was a small letter t.
