New York [RR] Coal-City-ENUGU--Republic Reporters gathered Thursday March 1, 2012 that Nigerian soldiers "fired a 21-gun salute at the funeral of Odumegwu Ojukwu as Nigerian leaders paid final respects to the man whose 1967 declaration of Biafran independence sparked a civil war, in defense of thousands of Igbo-Nationals who were being slaughtered in the North and across Nigeria, from 1966 to 1967.

According to Vanguard: "Forty-five years after he tried to split Nigeria asunder by proclaiming the Republic of Biafra, Ojukwu’s coffin was draped in the national colours of white and green at the funeral service in the city of Enugu, attended by thousands. Geneal Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu died in LONDON hospital on November 26, 2011 at the age of 78. His body was flown back to the homeland on Monday. At his funeral in Enugu former Capital of Peoples Republic Of Biafra, we gathered that Jonathan, and former Ghanaian President, J.J. Rawlings are among top dignitaries who stormed Enugu State to pay their last respect to the late Biafra leader and Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
